The Many Faces of Cooper Magoo

This was Cooper playing Sorry Express at Christmastime.

The thrill of victory; the agony of defeat. Really, it's just the thrill of victory. This kid will kick your butt at this game each.and.every.time.

Right, Grandpa?

The Good News and The Bad News

Just a silly observation:
When someone asks you, "Do you want the good news or the bad news?", which do you take first? Usually, I take the bad news first. Bring it on, I say.

Today, after preschool, I asked Nick just that, and without a moment's hesitation, he said he'd take the good news. Well, the good news was that we were getting a surprise McDonald's lunch. The bad news was that we'd have to spend more time at church working than I had anticipated. No problem for Nick. In his book, this was all good news!

So when Cooper got home, he asked Cooper if he wanted the good news or the bad news. Cooper chose the good news right away. Now I don't even remember what the good news was (good story, huh?), but it was so exciting that Nick totally forgot the bad news.

These little guys might just be on to something

Happy Valentine's Day

Today was Nick's valentine's day party at preschool. We started signing valentines at 9:00 yesterday morning. I think we should have started at Christmas time. Nick likes to sign 3-4 cards, and take a break. When there are 35 valentines to be signed, folded, stickered, then stapled to the car notebooks we got for his classmates, that makes for a sssllllooooowww process.
Luckily, quality control got home from school and the assembly line sped up quite a bit.

Maddie couldn't keep herself away from those stickers. She'd make a trade -- one baby for one sheet of stickers. We're still finding parts of the stickers all over the place.

Funny little side story: this morning at 7:45, Cooper says he hopes there are lots of valentines in his folder that they made earlier in the week. What? Folder? Cooper, are you supposed to have valentines for your class? (The room mother had sent home a sheet a week ago looking for valentine day party supplies, so I thought we were off the hook for regular valentines). Because God loves us, we had valentines. Nick needed 35 cards for everyone who attends preschool. I've been complaining that Target sold their valentines in boxes of .... you guessed it.... 34. So we had a LOT of cards left over. Cooper signed 20 in about 5 minutes flat, and all was right with the world again. Another holiday success.

Spring is Trying to Get Here

I, for one, appreciate the effort.

So This is New

As we were shopping for a birthday gift on Thursday, Cooper rounded a corner at Target, and nearly jumped out of his skin.

He spotted the guitar. It's the one he's been dreaming of his *whole life*. The one he's always wanted. The perfect one.

What?

I had no idea that Cooper had any notion of playing the guitar. This is the kid who refuses to sing along at church, at school, with his brother, in the car, in the shower, etc., etc. And he wants a gui-tar.

After more than 24 hours of deep pondering (and panic that Target would suddenly sell out their entire stock of guitars), the boy gathered his $33 from Christmas, birthdays, and the tooth fairy and set out to make his big purchase.

So, now we have a guitar player.

And an accompanist.

Who wants to buy a piano.

Strange Things Cooper Says

Cooper is getting so big, and sometimes I forget that he's still a little kid with so many new worldly experiences waiting for him.

Tonight, he proved that, not once, but twice.

We've been working on him to try the foods served in the cafeteria, so he was pretty excited to come home and announce, "I tried something new today! It was called a corn...what was it again? Oh yeah, dog! A corndog! Do I like that?"

He also ate a "big, rectangular tater tot"...otherwise known in some circles as a hash brown. My poor sheltered child.

Then, on the way home tonight after some lovely errand running, Cooper wants Maddie to sing. He picks the song, "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy". However, his version is "She thinks my tractor's sixty." Who am I to correct that? I kind of like the sheltered version.

Maddie and Daddy

Every once in a while Maddie has lots to say...
